The 7 Pillars of Success in Recovery

The most difficult part of recovery is the life-changing event of asking for help. Once you have done what you once saw as unthinkable, the real work begins on our road to redemption, and ultimate success. Here are my 7 Pillars of Success in Recovery:

1. Courage. You know what is courageous? Admitting that you don't know. Admitting that you don't have the answers. It takes courage to admit your faults, your flaws, and that you need help. It takes massive courage to ask for help. It takes courage to allow yourself to be...

2. Vulnerable. There is no need to fear vulnerability. Our greatest growth occurs at times where we are most uncomfortable, when we are vulnerable. You are NOT weak when vulnerable, rather you are fortifying your strength, increasing your growth. Do not ever give in to the haters, and to do so you must learn to...

3. Ignore the Noise. No matter what there will be people in your life who will constantly try to take you down, by any means necessary. Take all the time and energy spent worrying about how other's view you and put it toward becoming the best version of yourself that exists. Anyone can verbally assault another, but only the strong-minded can redirect the negativity into forming a...

4. Positive Mindset. There is no time for negativity in life, as nothing good will ever come from it. Do you want to change your life around? Well, it's time to change your mindset. Every negative can be turned into a positive and it can start right now for you. Filling your mind with endless amounts of positive thoughts will inevitably increase your...

5. Confidence. You can always tell who the confident person is in the room. It is the

individual standing tall, conversing with others, with a big smile on their face. A confident person can achieve anything and they know it. Limitless potential resides within all of us, but it can not be accessed by the weak-minded low self-esteem sourpusses. In order to build up your confidence you must first begin to practice...

6. Self-Love. If you don't love yourself then how could you ever want to give maximum effort to live your best life in the first place? Why would you want to get healthier if you didn't care about yourself? And without love for one's self there is no chance at loving another. Personally on my journey in recovery, once I learned to love myself again, I opened myself up to the realization that I was going to be okay, and that I could find happiness again in my life. Soon enough the love for myself allowed me to share joy and love with others. It inspired and motivated me to want to learn as much as possible to maximize my growth physically, mentally, and spiritually. Self-love helps us become whole, and when combined with the five aforementioned pillars we are blessed with the most important pillar of all...

7. Faith. None of this is possible if we first do not have faith that we will get better, we will find joy, and we will succeed on our journey in recovery. It may take some time to build up faith in yourself, but having faith that things are going to workout is a must. Without faith we will fear every obstacle put in our path, running from any opposition that confronts us...

* In order to maintain happiness and success whether in recovery or in life, there is one more significant ingredient that is vital to all growth: Gratitude. We can never be grateful enough for all that we do have and need to quit focusing on that which we don't. If you follow these 7 Pillars you will reap the rewards of recovery in even greater amounts, maximizing your growth in all facets of life. It is time for you to live a life in abundance. You can and you will.
